Before you choose a Web Host
Choosing a web host may seem simple for most, however it isn’t that simple.A good and reliable web host means stability and confidence.This is why, you should be a little picky when it comes to choosing your web host.This is why you shouldn't sign up with the first web host you come across with.Here is a small list of what to do when choosing a web host.
Lets go over to our check list.
- Do a search on web host reviews and read customer feed backs.
- Visit the web host company website and see what they promise and provide.
- Go over their features list to see if the web hosting company will work out for you.
- Compare prices between web hosts.
- Speak with a sales agent on live chat.
- Ask their sales agent if their promised, “unlimited space and bandwidth” is really unlimited.Most web hosting companies often suspend your account after you go over couple GB’s and ask you to upgrade your account for dedicated hosting or other types of hosting solutions.I had this issue with a video hosting site.I was promised an unlimited space and once I reached 5 GB’s on my hard drive, they suspended my account and refused to activate it, unless I pay for a dedicated hosting solution which was $2500 a year.
- Always print and email a copy of the chat, this way if things go wrong, you have a proof in your hand.
- Make sure they have 24/7 technical support.
- Make sure they promise 99% and above uptime guarantee.
- Check hosting companies history and make sure they have been in business for a while, so you can assure that they will be around after you sign up.
- Ask if you are allowed for sub domains, most hosting companies do not provide this service.
- Ask if you have ftp access to your server.
- Try to find other sites using the same host and check their loading speed.Most hosting companies get greedy and host as many as websites they can on a single machine.This causes a slow load of your website and cpanel.
- Ask what type of system they will run your server on.
- Check their simple scripts.Meaning what scripts they provide you with for you to choose and install, such as WordPress, Joomla, Forums, Wikipedia, Photo Galleries and etc…
- Make sure your server has all the needed software's installed and updated such as PHP.
